Carer’s Allowance

Carer’s Allowance is a benefit for people over 16 who are giving regular and substantial care to disabled children or adults in their own homes.

You may be entitled to claim for Carer’s Allowance if you:

  • Care for someone for at least 35 hours a week
  • Do not earn more than £128 a week after tax (this figure is revised every April)
  • Live in the UK when you claim Carer's Allowance
  • Are not a full-time student (defined as ‘supervised studying for 21 or more hours per week’)

And

The person you are caring for receives one of the following qualifying benefits:

  • DLA (Disability Living Allowance) care component at the middle or highest rate
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Constant Attendance Allowance
  • PIP daily living component
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment

Carer's Allowance is paid at a standard rate, currently set at £67.70 a week.
