Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children

Disability Living Allowance for young people under 16 provides help towards the extra cost of bringing up a disabled child.

DLA is divided into two parts:

  • A mobility component to help with walking difficulties and for children who require substantially more guidance and supervision when walking out of doors.
  • A care component for children needing extra personal care, supervision or watching over because of a disability.

When a child reaches the age of 16 they will usually be reassessed for Personal Independence Payment instead of DLA.
